St Gregory’s scientists were recently enthralled at Discovery Planet's latest science workshop, delving into the captivating realm of spiders. The workshop aimed to educate and inspire children about these eight-legged wonders and the pioneering advances that they offer to drug discovery and crop protection.
With an array of interactive activities such as chromatography, constructing spider and scorpion enclosures and studying molten spider skins under the microscope, the workshop offered a hands-on experience that ignited curiosity and excitement. Year 4 participant Daniel said “I started off being scared of spiders but when I left I decided I quite like them now.”
The workshop was an incredible opportunity for children to overcome their fears and develop a newfound fascination for spiders.
As Discovery Planet continues to spark curiosity and ignite passion for science among young learners, workshops like these serve as a testament to the power of hands-on learning and exploration. With spiders as the focal point, children departed with a newfound appreciation for the natural world and a curiosity to continue their scientific journey.
Keep an eye out for another workshop coming very soon....
