St Gregory's Catholic Primary School

'For every future, for every child'

EYFS

Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)

Everything across the entire school starts with EYFS. From these start points children learn how to be at school and prepare for their transition into National Curriculum Learning.

Carefully thought-out processes dictate the form and direction of learning at this stage and in planning and guiding what children learn we ensure we reflect on the different rates at which children are developing and adjust their practice appropriately.  We focus on three characteristics of effective teaching and learning:

playing and exploring – children investigate and experience things, and ‘have a go’

active learning – children concentrate and keep on trying if they encounter difficulties, and enjoy achievements

creating and thinking critically – children have and develop their own ideas, make links between ideas, and develop strategies for doing things

We know that our pupils come from differing backgrounds but we are immersed with a steely determination  that all children can achieve, regardless of their background. Our school motto - for every pupils, for every child, drives us in this respect and ensures we put no ceilings on our expectations nor barriers to success. We aim to create opportunity and be aspirational for our pupils, and this all starts in EYFS.
