Returning to school: September 2020

This page is to share information regarding all children returning to school in September 2020.  Please read through the information and remember to read any letters sent home from school that may have more updated information.
Please note that at the end of July 2020, the government changed the guidance around self-isolation if you have Covid-19 symptoms from 7 days to 10 days.
Self Isolation

Government guidance  sets out actions that schools must take and these are grouped into ‘prevention’ and ‘response to infection’.  These actions have been used to guide our plans for reopening to all children and include the following:

Prevention

  • Minimise contact with individuals who are unwell by ensuring that those who have Covid-19 symptoms, or who have someone in their household who does, do not attend school
  • Clean hands thoroughly and more often than usual
  • Ensure good respiratory hygiene by promoting the ‘catch it, bin it, kill it’ approach
  • Introduce enhanced cleaning, including frequently touched surfaces often
  • Minimise contact between individuals and maintain social distancing wherever possible
  • Where necessary, wear personal protective equipment (PPE)

Response to Infection

  • Engage with the NHS Test and Trace process
  • Manage confirmed cases of coronavirus amongst the school community
  • Contain any outbreak by following local health protection team advice

Our updated risk assessment will outline in further detail how the school is taking actions to mitigate risks and will be published here before school opens in September.

Attendance

The government been clear that all children are expected to return to school in September.  The guidance that parents would not be penalised should their child not attend has been removed and the usual rules for attendance will be back in place for September.  This includes the schools responsibility to record attendance, follow up on absence and issue fixed penalty notices in line with KCSPs Attendance Policy.  If you are concerned about your child returning to school in September, please contact  Mrs Sellwood or Mrs Mitchell to discuss ways to support you.
