St Gregory's Catholic Primary School

'For every future, for every child'

Computing

Statement of Intent

We believe that computing is an essential part of the curriculum and is an integral feature of all learning. Our computing curriculum enables all children to develop a wide range of skills and understanding that will equip them for the rest of their lives. All of the children will be taught to use technology safely and respectfully.

Our children in early years have access to technology that enables them to explore the world around them and understand how technology plays an important role in modern life.

In KS1 the children use tablets and computers during their enquiry time. This approach enables them to explore their intuitive ICT abilities and teaches them the problem solving skills that can be transferred to all areas of learning.

Both in KS1 and in KS2 the children are taught the skills to understand, implement and correct algorithms as well as how to create and debug simple programs.

At St-Gregory's, we understand that information and news the children can trust is more important than ever. Teaching children how to access information appropriate to them underpins every computing lesson that we deliver.

Article 17 Every child has the right to reliable information from the media. This should be information that children can understand. Governments must help protect children from materials that could harm them.
